Phillip Excell

Phil Excell was born in Bromley in 1966. Self taught Phil has painted and drawn from a very young age.

Phil decided after working in the telecoms industry for 20 years that he would concentrate his efforts into making his artistic hobby into a career.
“I cannot remember a time in my life when I didn’t paint. One of my earliest memories is sketching my Grandmother while she sat watching television.”
“I have always been drawn (forgive the pun) to create a unique story from a blank piece of paper. This process of creation excites me and I try to install this excitement into each one of my pictures.”
Currently Phil is working on “The White Cat” series of paintings. These were inspired by the stray white cat that comes into his house everyday to steal his cat’s food.
“Even though I chase the white cat away he still comes back every day, he seems to know no fear. After I while I wondered what this cat did when it wasn’t being chased by me and this inspired me to paint what I would like to think he does when he leaves my property. So far he’s conquered the moon, scaled high trees and sailed off into the night in an umbrella. Who knows what I’ll paint him doing tomorrow?”
Phil also likes to work on a larger scale having designed and painted sets for local amateur dramatics
